New to the table on Fridays and Saturdays
The team at the wine rooms is excited to share that they introduced a small plates menu a few weeks ago, available on Fridays and Saturdays. They have hit the right spot with this new addition to the menu, which was intended to be a one-time offering. It was so successful that they decided to offer small plates every Friday and Saturday.
Although some Cambridge pubs serve small plates, they are not as well executed as the offerings at the Wine Rooms. The small plates menu here is a lot more refined, which is not a surprise as Ryan, the chef, is a fine dining chef.

About Chef Ryan
In October 2024, Ryan Craig from the Organic Garden came on to the scene at the Wine Rooms with regular pop-ups. Since last week, the Wine Rooms has added another item to their ‘table’ – small sharing plates on Friday and Saturday nights. Although they are called sharing plates, you can have them as standalone dishes too if you don’t want to share. My perfect evening here would be ordering plates throughout the evening.

Life is too short to have bad wine….
Are you like me? I would rather spend my money at a venue that serves a good glass of wine than one that offers overrated, mediocre wine.
The Wine Rooms is one of those venues with an excellent wine list. Since the day it opened four years ago, I’ve been a big fan of their wine and food. Over the past few years, there have been a few changes. They are no longer open during the day, but only in the evenings, which makes sense.

Our review
I started with a Negroni and have to admit that I could make a beeline for this one. The secret ingredient is the vermouth from Vault, based in Saffron Walden. We moved on to a wine from one of my favourite vineyards, a Sauvignon Blanc from Klein Constantia. I was pleased to see that their Vin de Constance was available by the glass, too. Yes, indeed! That was the last sip of wine Napoleon had before he died. I have been very lucky to have lived very close to this excellent vineyard in Cape Town. We finished with another South African red. Sorry, can’t remember which vineyard, as it became a bit blurry by then.
The food was delicious, the service was perfect, and every time we visit here, we thoroughly enjoy the company of Treasure, the South African manager of the Wine Rooms. She is very knowledgeable and lovely.
Enjoying small plates and a fine glass of wine is the perfect way to ease your way into the weekend. As mentioned earlier, I recommend staggering the ordering of the plates so you can munch your way through the evening, enjoying fine wines and your company, of course!
