Dovecote Cellar at Burwash Manor
A few weeks ago, a new wine and beer shop opened at Burwash Manor, an excellent place in West Cambridge, to stock up on excellent beer and wine. Matthew Juggins’ motto is pretty straightforward: great wine made simple.

About Dovecote Cellar
Matthew founded Dovecote Cellar at Burwash Manor to share his love of wine and beer in the most simple, straightforward and accessible way possible without sacrificing a shred of quality. He wants to cut through the clutter of overwhelming selections and stuffy pretension, with a focus on quality, value, and making wine accessible.
Dovecote Cellar offers a carefully curated range highlighting interesting, characterful bottles – wines you’ll love without the guesswork. He has ditched the fancy jargon and wine snobbery and wants to encourage your curiosity, which is much more exciting. I haven’t been able to visit Dovecote Cellar yet, but I was intrigued about what took him down this path. So a bit more about Matthew below.

What got you into wine?
Actually, my first love and what got me into this industry was… beer! A home-brewing friend gave me the bug, and my first job in this sphere was as the resident beer expert and buyer for my local wine shop – but that was where I caught another, even more virulent, bug – Wine!

Life before wine and beer
Matthew ditched his publishing career, which wasn’t as cool and exciting as a professional alcohol enthusiast, which I fully can relate to. Swirling a glass of wine or beer is much more fun than sitting behind a desk all day.

What is your favourite food and wine pairing?
Sauternes and blue cheese! Contrasting pairings are much more fun and intriguing than the more obvious ones. The depth and complexity of the noble rot sweet wine balanced against the salty, umami richness of the blue cheese. A pairing anyone would definitely be salivating at just thinking about!

Which wine region would you most like to visit?
It isn’t easy to choose just one, so I would choose Patagonia for experiencing the culture and Alsace for the scenery, but if I could only go to one place, it would be Alsace.

Opening times of Dovecote Cellar
I hope I have given you enough reasons to visit Matthew at Dovecote Cellar at Burnwash Manor. Open 5 days per week from Wednesday to Sunday from 10 am to 5 pm, but Sundays till 3pm.
