While tasting top wines, you’ll learn how a region, climate, winemaking techniques and many other factors affect the final product in the bottle. CWM
Having been voted 3 times as the UK’s NO.1 Independent Drinks Retailer, Cambridge Wine Merchants organise tasting events regularly at their wine bars in Bridge Street and Cherry Hinton. They recently have started with online tasting events to facilitate during the pandemic.
Wine School
In 2008 Mark Anstead launched the Cambridge Wine School offering fun-filled Wine Tasting and Wine Courses, part of the Local Wine School network. His luxurious Saturday Intros to Wine includes lunch and Champagne and runs monthly in a choice of two venues.
Academy
Sip a glass of wine with a rock musician and the author of ‘The Grape Escape: One Man’s journey from Vinyl to Vine’, which tells the story of Steve’s two passions and how he made his own wine in France in 2007. Over the last two decades, he has worked for leading UK wine merchants.
NY Wines
This award-winning wine merchant opened its doors in West Cambridge in 1991 and now can be found in Great Shelford, including a wine bar. They stock a fine selection of wines offering wines from well-known areas and Croatia, Lebanon, and Slovenia.
Britannia
Our newest Wine Merchant in Cambridge! In 2021 Matt Hodgson opened his shop and wine bar in North Cambridge, Arbury. The name Grape Britannia is a bit of a giveaway. Indeed they specialise in English and Welsh wines.
Wine Rooms
One of the top places for local wine lovers to hang out. Carefully curated fine wines with an often changing offering, even by the glass! You can look forward to a laid back sommelier style service, bespoke wine tastings, and delicious Mediterranean inspired food by Liz Young.

Fancy something different? Join the Cambridge Gin company in their tasting room, sampling their award-winning Gins. For a more in-depth education of gin production, book yourself a place in the Classroom. You even can create your own Gin!
Beer tastings
Our favourite hang out to sample beer is the small-batch brewery Calverley’s tucked away in the back street off Mill Road. In 2014 Sam and Tom started with one beer, and soon, their craft beer range expanded to 15. The Taproom is open on Thursday and Friday evening, and Saturdays.
