Nyetimber Sparkling Wine Dinner

Nyetimber Dinner at Parker’s Tavern

Last week, we were invited to join the Parker’s Tavern and Nyetimber team for an elegant wine pairing dinner celebrating England’s oldest sparkling wine producer.

Lee Clarke – Parker’s Tavern Executive Chef

British Classics by Lee Clarke

Lee Clarke, Parker’s Tavern Executive Chef, created a fantastic 5-course dinner of British Classics to pair with these outstanding wines. The evening was hosted by Nyetimber’s team, Thomas Jacques, the senior sales manager for Central England, Wales, and Ireland and Sophie Robertson, their brand ambassador, who guided us through their English sparkling wines. The event was a true eye-opener for me. Not only are these wines of outstanding and consistent quality, but their variety is quite extraordinary.

About the Award Winning Nyetimber Winery

The international award-winning Nyetimber estate counts three significant milestones in its history. Its earliest beginnings saw it named in the Domesday Book in 1086, almost 1,000 years ago, when the peaceful valley of Nitimbreha first appeared in recorded history.

The second milestone was the planting of the first vines, almost 902 years later, in 1988, when the holy trinity of sparkling wine grapes – Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier – found a new home in the lee of the South Downs.

The third milestone was in 2006 when Eric Heerema became the owner and custodian of Nyetimber, believing that the estate, with its ideal soil and location, had yet to achieve its full potential.

Classic Cuvee MV not just for aperitif

Upon arrival, we were welcomed by the team with a glass of Nyetimber Classic Cuvee MV Magnums. The perfect way to start a fine evening of dining and enjoying good wine.

The Nyetimber Classic Cuvee MV is Nyetimber’s signature wine and a classic blend of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Pinot Meunier. It is a perfect balance of elegance and intensity. The blend includes wines from all their vineyards and several vintages, which was a refreshing match with the onion consommé with walnut oil.

A silky mix of potato, chanterelle mushrooms and Tunworth cheese

Nyetimber Blanc de Blancs 2016

Our second starter, the silky mix of potato, chanterelle mushrooms and Tunworth cheese, was paired with the Nyetimber Blanc de Blancs 2016, an elegant wine made of Chardonnay with extended time on lees and with notes of peach and lemon.

Veal sweet bread, peas, tarragon and Lardo

Nyetimber Rose MV

My favourite wine of the evening was the multi-vintage Nyetimber Rose MV, the perfect wine to celebrate a beautiful sunset on a summer’s evening with notes of strawberries, cherry and shortbread. Pinot Noir and Chardonnay are the main grape varieties, topped up with Pinot Meunier with 10 years lees. A lovely, creamy, bold, sparkling wine to match the creaminess of the veal sweet bread, peas, tarragon and Lardo.

Pork check, lobster, apple and king cabbage

1086 by Nyetimber 2013

The next wine, 1086 by Nyetimber 2013, is their most premium sparkling wine. Meticulously crafted, expertly blended and exquisitely aged. 1086 is the best of their best with notes of apple and 10 years lees perfectly matched with pork check, lobster, apple and king cabbage.

Cambridge summer honey and sourdough toast parfait

Nyetimber Cuvee Cherie MV

Our last wine of the evening is named after one of the winemakers, Cherie. Nyetimber Cuvee Cherie MV is Cuvee Chérie Multi-Vintage, and it is their celebrated Demi-Sec sparkling wine, the first of its kind in England with aromas of pure lemon, mineral, honey and a hint of tangerine. A perfect match with Cambridge summer honey and sourdough toast parfait.
